Matt Whelan is an established leading man, who most recently starred in Scott Walker’s creature horror THE TANK. He has just wrapped leading roles in comedy feature WORKMATES, and Irish/US/NZ series THE GONE, alongside Richard Flood and Michelle Fairley. A graduate of Toi Whakaari, New Zealand's most prestigious drama school, Matt quickly made his way onscreen with a series regular role in popular comedy-drama GO GIRLS (four seasons), for which he won a national award for Best Supporting Actor. Matt went on to star as the romantic lead in feature film MY WEDDING AND OTHER SECRETS, closely followed by further leading roles in THE MOST FUN YOU CAN HAVE DYING, 3 MILE LIMIT, and Canadian-NZ mini-series THE SOUNDS. Matt was also cast as a series regular in the BBC One/TVNZ adaption of Eleanor Catton’s Booker-prize winning novel, THE LUMINARIES. Matt's international career took off with a guest role in ABC drama OF KINGS AND PROPHETS. He was then cast as cultural icon Hugh Hefner in AMERICAN PLAYBOY: THE HUGH HEFNER STORY (Amazon Prime), then a series regular role in season 3 of NARCOS, portraying DEA agent Daniel van Ness.
