Subra is a professional actor, director and multi-disciplinary artist. He has a profound understanding and conceptual knowledge of theatre-making and live performance for both theatre and film and had spearheaded numerous projects in Sydney and Melbourne in the last decade. With an initial performance arts degree from Singapore, he pursued further training in Sanford Meisner's Technique at Ward Actor Studio in NYC. Following that, he pursued Post Graduate at NIDA. He participated in acting module led by Tony Knight (Acting Head NIDA) where he oriented himself with Laban/Bartenieff movement analysis approach to acting. He also attended Bill Pepper's Accent course at the Actor's centre to train his accent capabilities. Subra is masterful at character research, construction and execution where he carefully imbues meticulous details to create unique characterizations.
As a performer, Subra is entrenched in his approach and application of his craft to creating seismic shift in human consciousness. Subra has won countless critical reviews. Sydney Morning Herald reviewer Peter Wilkins described his performance in "The Process":It is Day's performance that would draw empathy from cold stone. ...is played with such conviction, such humanity and such emotive power...all follies, vices are mercilessly exposed.
Subra's philosophy to his craft stems from deep seated practice in Zen meditation which he spent 3 years learning and have practised since his twenties. He also considers Miles Davis, Denzel and Day-Lewis as his champions.
Besides acting, Subra was also an ex-Rugby Union player which he played in high school, army and university. He loves learning about current trends, watching movies, creating art and installations and going for lone car-rides.
Subra recently filmed roles in Wentworth (Foxtel) and Seven Types of Ambiguity (ABC).
