Notes

Bec is a kiwi comedian who is a regular support/opening act for New Zealand and Australia's popular comedians including, Urzila Carlson and most recently, Nazeem Hussain. She's part of the extremely popular Alternative Commentary Collective team alongside some of New Zealand's top TV, radio and sport personalities. Her first television comedy debut was on the The Project NZ as Whip Round reporter and has been a writer for NZ comedy panel show '7 Days' since 2019. Urzila describes her as 'One of the funniest comics in New Zealand'. A natural performer, this Ashburton native stormed onto the New Zealand comedy scene in 2017, using her own brutally honest and hilarious story-telling. Drawing on her colourful palette of life experiences, she paints a picture of life as it truly is: up and down, absurd, and bloody funny. Bec recently made her Melbourne International Comedy debut with her show 'Happy Cabbage' which she performed to sold out audiences in her NZ tour and NZ International Comedy Festival show run in 2021. In 2022 as soon as Covid border restrictions lifted, Bec took a quick sprint trip to San Francisco to dip her comedy toes in the San Fran scene where she performed 9 gigs in 4 days. Bec has a new one hour comedy show in the works 'OFF THE RAILS' which will be performed at various venues around NZ and Australia from September 2023. The show debuted to a full house in Christchurch on Sept 9th 2023, and will be toured around Fringe and Comedy Festivals in Australia in 2024. In the past few years Bec has been nominated for a variety of NZ Comedy Guild Awards; Breakthrough Comedian of the Year (2020 & 2019) Best Producer (2020) Outstanding Contribution to Comedy Industry (2019 & 2018). During level 4 lockdown Bec filmed daily episodes of Bec Time Stories (stories from her five and six year old self) with help from Milo the rescue cat. Bec set up her own comedy company Pop Up Comedy in 2017, and produces open mic and pro comedy nights around New Zealand. Since graduating from University of Canterbury in 2006, where Bec studied English and Theatre and Film Studies, she has written, directed, produced and acted in a variety of comedy shows, short films, webisodes and plays. In 2016 Bec was cast as the lead female in the NZ feature film Cade, alongside NZ comedians Brendhan Lovegrove and Jeremy Elwood. Bec performs stand-up comedy regularly at various venues around New Zealand and Australia.
